The Torah teaches about the power of combinations and warns us against mixing the wrong things together. One of these prohibitions concerns wearing or deriving warmth from a mixture of wool and linen, as it is written, "You shall not wear combined fibers, wool and linen together" (Deut. 22:11). In Hebrew this forbidden mixture is called Shatnez. The mitzvah (commandment) of Shatnez is as important a mitzvah as “Do not steal,” or “Love your friend as you love yourself”. |
